It is unusual to see significant sales prices for late-model combines so late in the spring, but on April 28, Purple Wave hosted an ag auction that brought in more than $1.6 million in revenue on many late-model combines. More than 20 sellers participated in the Internet auction and more than 700 bidders, including 158 first-time bidders, placed 4,859 bids on 237 items. Many assets in the auction were late-model combines that in previous years had only brought between $67,000 to $177,000. This week’s auction saw a substantial increase in final sales prices with combines selling from $83,000 to $185,000. Greg Peterson, also known as Machinery Pete, who blogs on Pete’s Point of View, noted the increase in sales prices in his April 30 posting on www.machinerypete.com, where he compared Purple Wave’s auction sales prices to other sales prices on late-model combines throughout the past year. Heavy advertising played a key role in marketing these assets to the largest audience of potential bidders. purplewave.com receives more than 100,000 visits to its website each month is has a registered bidder database of more than 52,000.
